Watercolourist does not install its own advertising network or analytics tracker. The hosting provider may retain standard security/access logs, including IP address and requested page.

The video classroom

Lesson thumbnails load from YouTube’s image service, which receives a normal image request from your browser. Selecting “Watch lesson” loads a YouTube player using its privacy-enhanced embed domain. YouTube may process technical information, show advertising, request consent or apply its own playback restrictions. Its privacy rules apply to those services. Videos do not play before you choose to load one; direct creator and YouTube links are available beside every lesson.

The “Mark practised” controls store a list of lesson identifiers in this browser’s local storage. That progress is not sent to Watercolourist or attached to a discussion account. Press a marked control again to undo it; clearing this site’s browser data removes all saved progress. If storage is unavailable, the controls work for the current visit.

Discussion accounts

A username and password let you post; no email address is requested. Passwords are hashed. Keep your account recovery code privately: it is needed to recover the account. Session cookies keep you signed in. Posts, replies, account records, reports and moderation actions are stored privately on the hosting account. Published contributions are public.

Painting uploads are processed by the server, resized and re-encoded. Do not include private details or publish other people’s work without permission. A video URL can embed a third-party player after interaction; that provider’s privacy rules then apply. Rate limits and security records help protect the discussion service.

The viewing room

The viewing room uses local browser storage to remember the last painting and its optional hidden interaction. The interaction’s blank state can last 24 hours; clearing site data resets it. The journal does not use that state.

You retain your copyright. Posting grants permission to display your contribution in this discussion, not to sell it as a print or put it in a commercial book. Use the Report control for a concern. For account, content or data requests, contact Mark and identify your account without sending a password or recovery code.
