A watercolour zine, from an artist’s corner.
Watercolourist is published by Mark C Grant, an artist working around Liverpool and Ormskirk. The subject is watercolour and the wider life of making art: looking, practising, choosing, failing usefully and finding a reason to return.
There is room for a joke. There is also room to take a painting seriously. The aim is useful, readable articles and a community that helps people keep making work. No advertising, pop-up sales pitches or equipment affiliate links.
How the editorial is made
Research and writing are AI-assisted. Features are labelled Watercolourist editorial rather than presented as Mark’s personal recollections. Historical facts and technical context carry source links; looking notes and exercises are editorial interpretations. We do not invent artist quotations, interviews, attendance or reader conversations.
Artist profiles are independent commentary. Exercises are inspired by what can be observed and researched, not authorised lessons or promises to reproduce an artist’s style. No featured artist is implied to endorse this publication.
Pictures and films
Mark’s paintings keep his credit. Historical images are individually checked for public-domain/open-access status and carry museum credits. Contemporary artists’ work is linked to its publisher when reproduction permission is unavailable. Films open with their original publishers.
The studio conversation
Accounts and replies belong to real readers. Six editorial opening prompts give people somewhere to begin; they are not fake engagement. Ask before giving a bruising critique. Explain the visual decision you mean. Disagree with ideas, leave personal attacks out, and share only images you have permission to publish.
